Hi, I’m Hazel.

Why did I become a UX Designer?

I immigrated to the US from Korea when I was 8 years old. The inability to speak English paired with my extreme shyness meant I grew up as a wallflower. I loved to observe; I would pay attention to people’s tone inflections, movements, and everything in between. With my love for the study of human behavior, I naturally gravitated towards Psychology at UCLA. However, research in academia seemed too cold and I longed for a more personal connection. I tried the world of retail management, drawn by my love for fashion, but soon felt limited in the career and desired to create. Then, I found my Goldilocks in a career called user experience design.

I loved how user experience design could impact the waves of human emotion yet, ground its success in measurable user value and business impact. I respected the humility and humbleness of design that continuously opened up to fail and asked to improve.

Whether through academia, customer service, or design, the underlying root of my path has always been driven by my yearn to understand the human mind and serve others. I am a designer because I am obsessed with understanding human behavior and empowered by the capacity to impact human lives through creative solutions.
